Do you know what your readers want? Obviously they’re interested in what you have to say because they visit your blog, but do you know which posts are most popular? Likewise are you aware of the topics bringing in the least amount of traffic?

Check Daily

It pays to keep an eye on your statistics. Don’t just glance at them, analyze them. Learn which key phrases bring in the most visitors, and which phrases don't work at all. That’s not to say you should write around your keywords.

However, it would be in your best interests to learn what it is that’s bringing traffic to your blog and figure out how to keep them coming back for more. If that means inserting popular keywords and phrases into your post, figure out how to do it so it makes the most sense.

I can see which keywords work best, who links to me and which days had the most traffic. Some of my fellow bloggers swear by Stat Counter, but it doesn't work well on my blog.

Some of the things I learned from my Site Meter include:

* Controversy brings in traffic.
* People don’t type like they talk. Many popular key phrases are grammatically incorrect. It pays to link to others. Reciprocal links bring in good traffic.
* It pays to add a link to your blog in your signature when visiting other blogs and forums.

Having a way to analyze my traffic helped me to grow traffic from a few dozen visitors a day to almost two thousand. Don’t underestimate the importance of a stat tracking tool.

If you would like search engines to place your blogs on their first few pages, you might want to do some keyword research to find the best words and phrases for your site. This is called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.

StumbleUpon or Digg?

So, you have a great new post, one you feel others will surely appreciate. How will you call attention to it, StumbleUpon or Digg? Both have the potential to send huge amounts of traffic your way, but is one better than the other?

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon is a very cool social networking and bookmarking site. The premise is simple, install the toolbar, click the icon to surf, and give the thumbs up sign to the blogs and websites you like. Submitting your blog in this manner will enter it into the StumbleUpon queue. Now other Stumblers might come upon your blog through their own surfing.

The more Stumblers giving your blog the thumbs up, the more traffic you will receive. Many sites and blogs receive thousands of stumbles in a single day thanks to member approval.

The thing to remember is that large bursts of traffic can be short lived. While you might see flowing traffic from StumbleUpon for a good week or two, after that you might get only a stumble or two here or there. The good news is that you more than likely landed a few new regular readers. Super Stumbles might not happen often, but there's a good chance you'll continue to receive traffic from StumbleUpon weeks after submitting your blog.

Digg

Digg is a whole other ballgame. Like StumbleUpon, it's a simple premise. You submit your article or blog post to Digg in hopes of other "Diggers" voting on it. If you're lucky you'll get a few dozen Diggs. It's not easy to get huge amounts of Diggs, and even more difficult to get your article on the front page. If you do, your traffic will sky rocket to amazing levels.

Digg traffic doesn't last long, however. If you receive lots of Diggs, you might see traffic for a few days. If you only get a Digg or two, you'll probably only see that many visitors. Unlike StumbleUpon, where your blog may continue to turn up when Stumblers surf weeks later, with Digg, the more time that passes, they less likely it is for someone to come upon your post.
Which is best for your blog?

Both Digg and StumbleUpon have their pros and cons. If you can submit to both, by all means do so. You're sure to get some traffic as a result. You have a better result of being Stumbled than Dugg. Since StumbleUpon allows Stumblers to visit random sites, the chance of someone landing on your blog is a lot higher than if they were to find it on Digg. Unless you're in the top couple of pages, most people won't know you exist.

Test them both out to see what works best for you. Both Diggers and Stumblers love to share great content. Give them something to talk about and submit to both.

This is better than having an opinion blog full of rants and raves unless you are already a top-notch journalist with an existing audience.

3. Choosing a Domain Name and Hosting : Until you become set try out your skills on a Blogger or Wordpress domain. 2. Haloscan - Trackback is an essential component of blogging these days. Unfortunately Blogger does not have trackback. Haloscan provides you with a seamless way to integrate free trackback in your blog by adding a small code. You can also integrate their comments component if you like to replace the Blogger comments.

The benefits are that you can edit Haloscan comments, and open them in a pop up and keep them separate from your post (Blogger allows you to only delete comments and not edit them, also on the post page all comments will show whether you like it or not).

The main disadvantage is it will not email you these comments (like Blogger) for free and it is difficult to track where these comments were made. Another major benefit is that it allows you to send pings and trackback to other sites when you mention about them in your posts.

3. Imageshack - Dont you want to fill your blog with images without hassles of registration. Imageshack provides an excellent interface to take care of your free image hosting needs. Maybe it is this the fastest way to host an image on the web. Allows lots of image format, hotlinking, transloading from other sites. Its a good idea to register to keep track of all your images in one place. It is much convenient than the proposed Hello and Picassa options…

Update: Blogger enabled hosting of images on its own webspace making it easier to host images in your posts. But you cannot manage or edit / delete your blogger images in any way

4. Technorati - Create and add a technorati profile. It allows you to claim your blog in this huge blogosphere. It allows
you to put an excellent technorati search on your blog. The best part is that whenever someone mentions or links to any page of your blog, technorati knows and a search for your blog on technorati shows exactly how many sites
link to which pages of your blog and when they were added with a small description.

5 - Sitemeter - Just takes 5 minutes to get a free tracker which gives you realtime site traffic statistics to check the quantity and quality of your site traffic with detailed referrer and geographic data. I have checked out several other tracking sites, but this one seems the best. Although you need to keep a counter visible (as a logo, visitor counter) and the statistics can be made private too.

StatCounter gives much more detailed statistics and the counter is totally invisible and free totally till you start getting large traffic, when you need to pay. But the disadvantage is that both of these track the last 100 visitors only, while another free service Extreme Tracking tracks them all… but you statistics cannot be made private. More options I like
are Google Analytics for deep traffic statistical analysis and it is hidden too.

6. Feedblitz - It quickly allows your blog visitors to subscribe by email to your new posts. They just have to enter
their email. You decide which page opens after they press Subscribe. A quick confirmatory email to them and they get 1 email daily with all your new posts. You can decide if you want to send the full post or short posts with

7. My Blog Log - Tracks outgoing links to let you know where your traffic is going. The free limited version data is not in much detail, yet provides a good idea. You can also add a Top 5 Our Links module to your web site. Now they have a MyBlogLog community to get some extra site traffic too.

These days many bloggers are complaining that all the images from their templates are missing..here is the explaination -
For all of the blogger template, accounts on image hosting are used to host all the images needed.

Unfortunately, an unexpected problem is coming! those image hosting websites have set a limit of the bandwith. It means, if many blogger using the same template on their blog, they will all use the same bandwith of the image hosting account. and once the bandwith exceeded it’s limit, all the images will be unaccessible.

This affect to your blog look. All images on your template will be gone, and replaced by the background color.

To fix it, I recommend all of to you to use your own image host to host all the image of the templating u r using. How to do that? here is the steps.

WIDGET PROBLEM

Important notes troubleshoooting the installing of a new blogger template.

1. Be careful with the widgets. Pay more attention on it.This is one thing I don’t like too much about blogger’s automatic system. Let’s get an example to make it clear and easier to understand.

If your currently blog has only 1 HTML/Javascript widget. and on the new template has more then 1 + 1 HTML/Javascript widget, let’s say it has 3 HTML/Javascript widgets. You will have a bad day if you are new on editing blogger templates. especially if you are new on web programming.

What would happen?

On the normal case. you would have 3 different HTML/Javascript widgets. they are widgets with this id: HTML1, HTML2, HTML3

Unfortunately, on this case, if your current blog only has 1 HTML/Javasscript widget, and the new template uses (requires) 3 HTML/Javascripts. Instead you would have 3 different widgets with 3 different id, you would only have 3 different widgets with 2 different id. they are: HTML1, HTML2, HTML2

That is why, you would be succeeded uploading the new template, but you would never be able to edit it, because each time you want to save the template, you would always get an error says Duplicating widget’s id. “HTML2″!

I would say, it is a bug of blogger template system.

How to fix it?

1. Rename one of the duplicate id’s with a new id. on the example above, rename one the Id of HTML2 into HTML3.

2. Click the Save Template button.

If the duplicate Id still occurs. rename it again to another id. eg: HTML4, HTML5 and so on.

I often receive this question from people who trying to install one of my template on their blog.The reason is simple.Almost all people do the same mistakes.that is simply copying all the code in the downloaded template file and pasting it into the template editor on the blogger dashboard. which is the totally wrong way to install a blogger template.

Blogger Engine has some hidden settings on their system, that makes somehow we can’t just simply copy and paste the template code. And that is why they provides an upload template feature.

So, if any of you still can not install some templates you downloaded here,
1. please try to upload it through the Blogger Template Up loader feature first.

If you still unable to install it,

2. try to create a new blog just to test the template. try to install the template you want to the test blog.

There is a problem often occurs on Installing a new blogger template.

I read an article about a lazy person that copied someone else's content word for word and pasted on their own site. They tried to join AdSense and they were rejected for unauthentic content. Google is very good in detecting content theft.

Not to mention, the search engines are now ignoring pages with duplicate content. So all the thieves out there that are too lazy to come up with their own content are now finding that they cannot get their site ranked in Google, Yahoo and MSN simply because they've copied someone else's work.

It's not worth the risk. Not to mention, it's illegal to republish someone else's work without permission. That's why you should choose a topic you know a lot about or at least have a great interest in.

There's no reason to copy off someone else's site. Be original. Laziness always comes to bite you in the long-run.
