How to Encourage Blog Comments
One of the ways blogs are different from websites is the community. Blogs allow comments, and the more the better. In fact, the livelier your community, the more attractive your blog becomes. Blogs with high comment counts draw others in like magnets. Plus, your existing readers will come back often to see how the discussion is going. Remember, everyone enjoys a good party. Encourage your visitors to return by engaging them in conversation. Here’s how:
Ask questions:
A Question in a post’s title will not only attract readers, but it will also encourage them to answer. Is there something you’ve ever wondered about others in your niche? Ask and they’ll be sure to answer.
Discuss a controversial topic:
Nothing stimulates conversation like controversy. You don’t have to go for shock value but if yours is an unpopular opinion or if you’re in disagreement with a certain news items or author, do discuss on your blog. You’ll be amazed at how emotional some people get!
Make a list post:
List posts are a great way to bring in traffic and provide great content. They’re also handy for stimulating conversation. Drop a list and watch how many of your readers to come out of the wwoodwork to disagree with your choices or suggest something you missed.
Have a contest:
Have contests where entrants have to answer questions, provide links, or somehow respond in the comments. Offer up a prize to the winner(s).
Say something funny:
Write a funny post. You don’t have to stray off topic or go over the top, just provide a humorous anecdote or take a look at the lighter side of your niche. The best part? You’ll receive a whole bunch of funny comments in return.
